Welcome back to the Popcorn newsletter! We’re going to kick off this season’s newsletter with the basics of running effective meetings. Enjoy!
Effectively run meetings save time and lead to better decisions that your team can implement.
Why it Matters: We spend so much time in meetings, running them more effectively will substantially improve our organizational lives and team outcomes. Effectively run meetings create positive cultural norms for your team as well.
Try It:
Set the Agenda: This establishes the purpose of the meeting and gives your team a map of how to get there. #purpose
Start & End on Time: It’s simple… Don’t waste your team’s time. #timeismoney
Control the Meeting, Not the Conversation: Your job is to make the best decision; the only way to do that is to get your team engaged and sharing ideas. #decider
Ban Technology: If you or your team are distracted by competing demands, everyone’s time is being squandered. #focus
End with an Action Plan: “Who will do what by when” should be the last agenda item of every meeting. #wwdwbw
